Collecting Customer Feedback with a Table QR Code

3 min read

A QR code on the table lets guests leave feedback on their phone in seconds while they wait for the bill, with no app or sign-up. For it to work, the code has to be in the right place, easy to scan and paired with a short invitation.

How does QR feedback work?

  1. The guest scans the QR code on the table with the phone camera.
  2. The business's feedback page opens on the phone.
  3. The guest gives a rating and, if they like, writes a short comment.
  4. The feedback lands on the business's dashboard right away.

Unlike paper surveys, there's nothing to collect, read and type into a computer. The feedback is recorded directly.

Step 1: Keep the form short

A form filled in at the table shouldn't take more than a minute. An overall rating, an optional staff rating and a comment box are enough for most businesses. We cover which questions to ask in our restaurant satisfaction survey guide.

Step 2: Create the QR code and test it

Before printing, scan the code with phones of different brands and in the real lighting at your tables. A code that won't scan in dim evening light is useless during your busiest hours.

Step 3: Get the print right

  • Print it large enough. Guests should be able to scan it from their seat without bringing the phone very close.
  • Leave a margin around it. The blank space around the code helps the camera detect it.
  • Use high contrast. A dark code on a light background works best.
  • Prefer a matte finish. Glossy lamination can reflect light and make scanning harder.

Step 4: Place it where guests look

Table stands, the first or last page of the menu and the bill folder get the most attention. A copy at the counter and on takeaway bags reaches guests who don't sit down.

Step 5: Add a short invitation

How was your visit today? Scan the QR code — it takes a few seconds. Your feedback goes straight to management.

Saying why it matters (“goes straight to management”) increases participation. People want to know their opinion will reach someone.

Step 6: Get your team involved

A server pointing to the QR code with one sentence when bringing the bill is far more effective than waiting for guests to notice it. Tell your team the ratings are collected to make good work visible, not to punish anyone.

Common mistakes

  • Linking the QR code to your general website, where guests can't find the form.
  • Using a long form full of required questions.
  • Placing the code somewhere hidden, like the back of a napkin holder.
  • Not replacing worn or stained prints.
  • Not reading the feedback and never changing anything.

Setting it up in Hunlio Feedback

  1. Create your business and add your team in the Staff section.
  2. Set up your tables, then create and download your business QR code in the QR section and print the table cards.
  3. Add your logo and colors to the guest screen in Theme, and choose the guest languages in Languages (Turkish, English, German, Russian, Arabic).
  4. Follow the ratings in the Business Panel and in Reviews.

To keep ratings reliable, Hunlio Feedback blocks ratings from devices registered to staff and stops the same device from rating the same staff member again within 24 hours.

Frequently asked questions

Do guests need to download an app?

No. Most current phones read QR codes with the camera app, and the feedback page opens in the browser. No sign-up is needed either.

In how many languages can the feedback page be shown?

In Hunlio Feedback, the guest screen is available in Turkish, English, German, Russian and Arabic. The Arabic screen is shown right-to-left.

Does a printed QR code expire?

The code itself doesn't expire. Worn, scratched or stained prints may stop scanning, though, so check your table cards regularly and reprint them when needed.
